Playing Standards & Pace Expectations

Tidworth is renowned for being a course crafted by the H. S. Colt, that is beautiful, enjoyable, as well as challenging.  With this in mind, we require all visiting golfers to have:

  • A WHS handicap, or
  • Play golf regularly to a good standard, or
  • Have a good understanding of the rules of golf, can consistently strike the ball well, and know how to play at an acceptable pace

If in doubt, please speak to our Pro Shop Team.

Before booking, we kindly ask that all golfers read the following guidance, which is not only designed to ensure you understand the expected playing standards and behaviour when here are at the Club, but most importantly, to also ensure that you have a pleasurable and memorable day with us!

How to Book

March to September (Summer)

Tee times bookable between 10:30am-6pm either online (up to 6-months in advance exclusively online) or 2-weeks in advance via the Pro Shop

A limited selection of tee times are offered exclusively online and in advance, further tee times are released 2-weeks in advance, contact the Pro Shop to check availabilty and book

Discounted Golf

All year round

Golfers who wish to access discounted golf (i.e. county card, reciprocal, military, courtesy, practice, voucher, etc) can book up to 2-weeks in advance, contact the Pro Shop to check availabilty and book.  Please note that reciprocals can only be booked up to 7-days in advance and only permitted between March-November

Trolleys & Buggies

We have electric and pull trolleys, along with electric EZ-GO buggies, available to hire. These can be reserved in advance or hired on the day. Contact the Pro Shop Team to discuss / book.  Anyone using a Club buggy must read and sign the buggy policy & safe use acknowledgement form prior to going onto the course.

Additional Information For Golfers

Pre-Arrival Information for Golfers

Pre-Arrival

We recommend all golfers read the above guidance in advance to understand the expected playing standards and behaviour required of all visiting golfers.

Please be advised that the Club reserves the right to ask you to leave the course, or refuse entry to play.

Playing Standards & Pace

Our course can be challenging to play, so we don’t recommend it for beginners or infrequent golfers. All golfers who play here should:

  1. Have a Handicap, or
  2. Play golf regularly to a good standard, or
  3. As a minimum have a good understanding of the rules of golf, can consistently strike the ball well, and know how to play at an acceptable pace

On Arrival

All golfers should check-in at the Pro Shop prior to play and pay any outstanding fees.

Access

Golfers are welcome to arrive early, or stay after play, in order to utilise and enjoy the practice facilities, bar & restaurant

Trolleys & Buggies

We have electric and pull trolleys, along with buggies, available to hire. These can be reserved in advance or hired on the day. Contact the Pro Shop Team to discuss / book.  Anyone using a Club buggy must meet eligibility criteria, read and sign the 'Buggy Policy & Safe Use Acknowlegement Form' prior to going onto the course.

Clubhouse Facilities

The Clubhouse offers all of the expected facilities, such as a well-stocked Pro Shop, changing & shower facilities, shoe-cleaning station, along with a lovely open plan bar and restaurant area that overlooks the 1st tee and practice putting green to relax and enjoy.

Practice Facilities

We have extensive practice facilities to aid your preparation before play and give you a taste of the course, including nets, an outdoor covered practice range, practice green, short-game practice area with chipping and putting from grass or bunker positions. 

Golf Course Etiquette

  1. ✓ Always repair pitch marks
  2. ✓ Always repair divots
  3. ✓ Always rake bunkers
  4. ✓ Our greens staff have right of way, please respect this
  5. ✓ All golfers are required to adhere to the standards of player conduct as defined by the R&A Rules of Golf

6th green approach is blind

7th tee, blind tee shot, ring bell on approach to green

Food & Beverage

Members and visitors alike can enjoy a cold beverage or a warming hot chocolate and a delicious meal with friends, family and colleagues whilst looking out over the course.

Halfway Hut

And if you want to stop for a drink or snack on the course, you are welcome to do so at our Halfway Hut, situated after the 9th green.

Halfway Hut open hours: winter 10am-3pm | summer 9.30am-4pm.

Toilets

9th/10th - toilet by Halfway Hut

14th hole - finishes at the Clubhouse (toilets inside)

Dress Code

Recognisable golf attire and golf shoes (no trainers)

Golf shoes are not permitted in the Clubhouse (please change)

Pace of Play

Slow play has the potential to significant impact your enjoyment, and that of the other playing groups around you.

Expected Round Times:

  1. 4-balls should finish in 4-hours, 3-balls in 3.5-hours, 2-balls in 3-hours
  2. You are expected to get to the Halfway Hut within 2-hours

Golfers must maintain a good pace of play, by:

  1. Planning your shot & go when you are ready
  2. Ensuring you keep up with the group in front
  3. Limiting searching for balls to a max of 3-min max
  4. If you are having a bad hole don’t let it impact other golfers, pickup and move on
  5.  Don’t be that group in front that putt-out and then hang around on the green marking your card (write your scores on the next tee box)
  6. Being efficient around the green - line up your putt as others are putting
  7. If you are not able to keep up with the group in front and a group behind is catching up, we expect you to respectfully let them through

Winter Golf

Tidworth prides itself on being an exceptionally well-draining and ideal for winter golf, however, visitors playing in the winter months may encounter the following: temporary greens, use of fairway mats, restrictions on the use of trolleys and buggies. Our winter rates are priced to reflect these possibilities.

Security

Tidworth Garrison Golf Club Ltd cannot accept any liability for any injury, loss or damage however caused, to any member of the party or to their clothing, equipment, money or other articles. This also extends to their cars (including contents) which are parked entirely at their owner's risk.

RISK OF INJURY

Golf carries inherent risks, including but not limited to injuries from errant golf balls, slips or falls on uneven terrain, and other accidents.  By booking to play you confirm that you are choosing to do so voluntarily, at your own risk, you accept the risks associated with playing golf, and as such will take necessary precautions.  Tidworth Garrison Golf Club Ltd cannot accept any liability for any injury, or loss, or death, or damage however caused.

MONITORING

We use Course Marshals when necessary to monitor pace of play, all golfers must adhere to any/all instructions and guidance provided.  If you fail to keep an acceptable pace you may be asked to pick up and move to the next hole.
